Athens Photo Project is a community of artists using photography as a tool for self-expression, personal growth, and social change within the mental health recovery journey. For 20+ years we have worked in Appalachian Ohio exploring the boundaries of photography and mental health while reaching diverse audiences with our images. Our commercial photography team is leading Recovery Reframed, a multi-county stigma reduction campaign. Our team is working with individuals in recovery from addiction, various Recovery Community Organizations, and other community partners. We hold portrait and writing workshops that allow participants to reflect on their own recovery journey. We are creating these portraits and sharing these stories in an effort to reduce public stigma around addiction recovery, and to foster hope through increased awareness of personal recovery journeys.
